Client Receives Compensation After A Slip At The Supermarket
Case Study - Ms Rahm
Ms Rahm was entering her local supermarket one evening, when she slipped on a puddle of water just inside the store, and fell, spraining her ankle and damaging ligaments in her wrist. It had been raining heavily all afternoon, and pools of water had formed as more and more customers entered with wet shoes and boots. Despite the obvious danger these puddles of water posed, no action had been taken to keep the floor areas near the main entrance dry. Ms Rahm’s husband drove her to hospital, where doctors applied a plaster cast to her injured ankle and bandaged her wrist before discharging her. Ms Rahm suffered mobility difficulties for 8 weeks following her accident, as well as problems sleeping. She was unable to look after her two young children properly during that period, and her husband was consequently forced to take time off work to assist her.
Our Legal Advice
Ms Rahm got in touch with Bartletts Solicitors, having read about our expertise in handling claims for injuries caused by slips and falls in supermarkets. We took on her case on a no win no fee basis, and wrote to the supermarket, pointing out that their management were aware, or should have been aware, of the weather conditions that day, but had failed to take any preventative action to stop the floor near the main entrance from becoming slippery and hazardous. By law, commercial premises are obliged to take all reasonable measures to protect their visitors from the risk of injury. In this case it was quite clear that the pools of water posed a hazard, and Ms Rahm’s injury was therefore reasonably foreseeable. On admission of liability, Ms Rahm received £2,750 in compensation for her injuries.
